A long time ago when myself and Rebecca were Very New, Rebecca took a photo of a friendly looking graffiti figure painted on a wall on the north side of the quays, between town and East Wall. This was some time in 2010, I guess.

Sometimes when I go to the recycling place I come away with more things that I leave there. Windows, doors, nice beams of wood, and this time an old ‘baül’ or ‘bagul’ depending on which part of the country you are in. These are steamer trunks, basically solid luggage or boxes for storage. You find them in many houses here in Catalonia, presumably all around Spain too. I don’t really know.

Up until today, the pages on my #jekyll website were of the form example.com/foo, that is, stored at root. The top-level of the repo was starting to look messy with a load of pages, so I decided to investigate moving them inside a folder, just for tidyiness.

There’s a term in carpentry that I like, for some reason it’s been on my mind for a while: sistering. When a roof beam is having trouble doing its job and needs an extra bit of help, the idea is to aid the struggling beam with an accompanying one that sits alongside it, helping carry the weight. The analogy is obvious, really, in the term ‘sistering the beam.’

Next up in the project to recover all the old content is my first foray into web building, the infamous football commentary Geocities website Herbert Park Rangers Football Club, mainly the ~~2004~~2003 season. The football was basically UCD canoe club having kickarounds, usually on ~~Thursdays~~Tuesdays and sometimes Saturdays, if the rivers weren’t running. The website was the vehicle by which I slagged off everyone the following day. Oh what bliss was the internet before commenting was invented! Just my point of view and no right of reply for the readers.

Bit by bit I am adding the old content back into mananamanana.com; today it’s the turn of my content from the old group blog dublinopinion.com. Sadly the original website is defunct but I did manage to find what seems to be all of it (and it was a lot of stuff…) on the wayback machine. (On a sidenote, what an amazing resource is the wayback machine in these times of link rot and disappearing content). I retrieved all my blogposts from there - I seem to remember that I did a ton of writing there, but it seems in reality I only contributed 20+ posts.

Jetcim 2024

I’ve been adding to the jetcim page for the 2023-2024 ski season. It’s all explained on that page, but the basic idea is to take a selfie on each of the 122 Jetcim chairlifts at our local ski station. At the end of this season I’ve managed to be on 32 of them, with a few repeats, but also a few where the photo didn’t come out, so those ones don’t ‘count’ as it were.
